To express the Council’s support for procuring the translation into Spanish of all Council meetings and any related agendas, documents, and materials, and for such Spanish translations to be simulcast on internet and television transmissions of Council meetings.

WHEREAS, upon information and belief of Council, the city of Richmond has a significant and growing Hispanic population of which a large part speaks primarily Spanish; and WHEREAS, the Council is of the opinion that procuring the translation into Spanish of all Council meetings and any related agendas, documents, and materials such that such Spanish translations are simulcast on internet and television transmissions of Council meetings would enhance the participation of the city’s Hispanic population in local government; and
WHEREAS, the Council believes that it is in the best interests of the citizens of the city of Richmond that the Council express its support for procuring the translation into Spanish of all Council meetings and any related agendas, documents, and materials, and for such Spanish translations to be simulcast on internet and television transmissions of Council meetings;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND:
That the Council hereby expresses its support for procuring the translation into Spanish of all Council meetings and any related agendas, documents, and materials, and for such Spanish translations to be simulcast on internet and television transmissions of Council meetings.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That the Council hereby requests that the Council Chief of Staff cause the preparation of a report determining the fiscal impact and associated costs to procure such Spanish translation services and submit such report to Council within 90 days after the date of the adoption of this resolution.
