To designate the 4000, 4100, 4200, and 4300 blocks of Crutchfield Street in honor of the late Leslie D. Jackson.

WHEREAS, Leslie D. Jackson was born in the city of Richmond and graduated in 2003 from George Wythe High School where she served as battalion commander of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps; and
WHEREAS, upon graduation from George Wythe High School, Leslie D. Jackson enlisted in the United States Army, subsequently serving as a private, first class, with military unit A Company, 115th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division stationed at Fort Hood, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Leslie D. Jackson was deployed with her military unit to Iraq in 2004 where she served during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, on May 20, 2004, Leslie D. Jackson's military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device as she was returning to Camp Eagle in Baghdad, Iraq, resulting in her death in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to memorialize Leslie D. Jackson's heroic service to the United States of America by designated the 4000, 4100, 4200, and 4300 blocks of Crutchfield Street, the street along which her alma mater, George Wythe High School is located, in her honor; and
WHEREAS, because this designation is honorary only, the provisions of sections 8-7 through 8-10 of the Code of the City of Richmond (2015), as amended, do not apply to the designation made hereby or to any signs erected pursuant to this ordinance;
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY OF RICHMOND HEREBY ORDAINS:
? 1. Designation of Street Block for Honorary Name. The 4000, 4100, 4200, and 4300 blocks of Crutchfield Street shall be designated in honor of Leslie D. Jackson, pursuant to this ordinance.
