To express the Council’s support for the Governor of Virginia’s executive order requiring that face coverings be worn in public indoor areas to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

WHEREAS, on May 26, 2020, the Governor of Virginia issued Executive Order No. 63 (2020), providing that, effective 12:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, “[a]ll patrons in the Commonwealth aged ten and over shall when entering, exiting, traveling through, and spending time inside [public indoor settings] cover their mouth and nose with a face covering, as described and recommended by the CDC,” in continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, the City’s Administration has issued guidelines concerning the use of face coverings for employees of the City as the City moves forward with Phase One of Forward Virginia, the Governor of Virginia’s plan to reopen businesses and public facilities closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, the Council believes that it is in the best interests of the citizens of the city of Richmond that the Council support the Governor of Virginia’s Executive Order 63 (2020) and the guidelines of the City’s Administration concerning the use of face coverings for employees of the City to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus;

NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND:

That the Council supports the Governor of Virginia’s Executive Order 63 (2020) and the guidelines of the City’s Administration concerning the use of face coverings for employees of the City to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
