WHEREAS, the City of Richmond desires to submit an application for an allocation of funds through the Virginia Department of Transportation's Transportation Alternatives Program to fund the installation of a five-foot wide sidewalk westbound along German School Road from Glenway Drive to Blakemore Road and to commit to the required agreements of the Virginia Department of Transportation's Transportation Alternatives Program; and
WHEREAS, such new sidewalk along German School Road will connect a proposed private development located on German School Road at its intersection with Glenway Drive completing the last remaining sidewalk gap along the German School Road residential corridor; and
WHEREAS, such sidewalk installation project includes the installation of pedestrian crossing improvements on Glenway Drive at its intersection with Glenway Court and Blakemore Road and curb extensions on German School Road at its intersection with Glenway Drive to reduce the pedestrian crossing distance and to connect the remainder of the sidewalk network on the south side of German School Road; and
WHEREAS, such improvements are a part of Richmond's Vision Zero Action Plan to improve pedestrian safety on high injury designated streets, which include German School Road and such improvements are a part of Richmond Connects to provide safer pedestrian networks in communities of concern; and
