SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION

The Zoning Ordinance currently requires the Commission of Architectural Review to consist of nine members and specifies certain criteria for the appointment of the nine members by City Council.  Currently, one of the members must be appointed from a list of at least three nominees submitted by the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods; one must be appointed from a list of at least three nominees submitted by the James River Richmond Chapter of the American Institute of Architects; one must be appointed from a list of at least three nominees submitted by the Historic Richmond Foundation; one must be appointed from a list of at least three nominees submitted by the Richmond Association of Realtors; and five must be citizens of the city appointed at large.

The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods has recently merged with the Better Housing Coalition and the James River Richmond Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has recently changed its name to the Richmond Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance would reflect the current names of these organizations and reflect their names accurately.

Staff recommends approval of these proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance.
