ORD. OR RES. No.
PURPOSE: To authorize the acceptance of $4,780,737.08 from the Greater Richmond Convention Center Authority (GRCCA) to the General Fund Operating Budget and appropriating such funds to the Richmond Public Schools agency budget, to amend the General Fund Operating Budget by an increase of $4,780,737.08 and to amend the Richmond Public Schools Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget to increase by $4,780,737.08.
BACKGROUND: Upon completion of the Commonwealth of Virginia Budget for fiscal year 2026-2027, the Richmond Public Schools budget has identified a $8,900,000 funding gap relating to funding available from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Annually, the city receives a revenue payment for taxes related to hotel and short-term rentals. This legislation proposes appropriating the $4,780,737.08 anticipated revenue payment for these taxes directly to Richmond Public Schools.
