To support the Mayor's formation of an advisory committee in accordance with City Code ?? 2-793-2-799 to aid in planning for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States of America, to plan and coordinate programs occurring within the city of Richmond, and to communicate regularly with the American Revolution 250 Commission.

WHEREAS, effective July 1, 2020, sections 2.2-2544 through 2.2-2550 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, established the American Revolution 250 Commission as an advisory commission within the executive branch of state government to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, section 2.2-2549 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, authorizes local governments, including the City of Richmond, consistent with their missions, to provide assistance and advice to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, or directly to the American Revolution 250 Commission, in fulfilling all things necessary and proper to plan for and implement such commemoration; and
WHEREAS, upon information and belief, the American Revolution 250 Commission has requested that the City form an internal, administrative committee to aid in planning for the commemoration period, to plan and coordinate programs occurring within the city of Richmond, and to communicate regularly with the American Revolution 250 Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND:
That the Council supports the Mayor's formation of an advisory committee in accordance with sections 2-793 through 2-799 of the Code of the City of Richmond (2020), as amended, to aid in planning for the commemoration period, to plan and coordinate programs occurring within the city of Richmond, and to communicate regularly with the American Revolution 25...
